Soundtracks
A small town, a middle aged man looking for adventures, a young man – or several young men- inexperienced in love and a beautiful woman who brings turmoil: these are the main ingredients of the sexy comedy. The main characters are doctors, teachers, nurses, tenants, and many others. This genre aims originally to a male audience, mostly soldiers in the service on their day off. At the time sexy comedies are denigrated but afterwards have become subject of studies and through the years they have been re-released in different editions.
However, the music score has always been the strong point of these movies.
Umiliani composes the soundtrack of “Il Fidanzamento”, starring the couple Buzzanca-Brochard, and of “L’Insegnante” (“The Sexy School Teacher”) with Edwige Fenech, directed by Nando Cicero, which is considered the first in the history of sexy comedy.
The themes composed for the two “erotic dramas” ”Blue Nude” and “La Notte dell’Alta Marea” (“Twilight of Love”) by Luigi Scattini, are a different chapter. The soundtrack of the first film is based on two jazz themes with some jazz-funk excursions, while in the soundtrack of the second film Umiliani works together with soul-funk singer and organist Timmy Thomas from Miami. In 1972 Thomas was internationally famous with the song “Why Can’t We Live Together” that bewitched also director Luigi Scattini. Umiliani and Thomas co-sign the songs “The Night of the High Tide” and “Elusive Love”.
Other movies of this period are “Pane Burro e Marmellata”, where the disco encounters the lounge music, and “La Pupa del Gangster” (“Poopsie & Co.”) starring the couple Mastroianni- Loren. Here Sophia interprets “Menage a Trois” playing the role of a singer and dancer. Finally, there is one of the last Italian world-movies, “Notti Folli nel Mondo” with Amanda Lear.
